What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?

Modern car keys come with unique chips that are specific to each vehicle, which is not the case with older keys. This prevents thieves from simply taking the key and turning on the car.

Keys can be purchased at an auto dealer or copied in a locksmith's shop. The procedure of the manufacturer differs however, it involves turning the ignition key to the "on" position, without activating the vehicle, and then removing the key after the time frame.

Transponder Codes

The name implies that transponders transmit an encoded signal that contains a four-digit number code when it is interrogated by air traffic control.
